Located in Castel San Pietro Terme, Italy, IMA Life Bologna is the global reference site for the IMA Life division, a global leader in aseptic processing and freeze-drying technologies for the pharmaceutical industry. The division also includes five other production sites: IMA Life Calenzano, IMA Life Pharmasiena, IMA Life North America, IMA Life Beijing, and IMA Life Shanghai. Together, these sites offer a comprehensive portfolio of solutions for processing liquids and powders in both aseptic and non-aseptic environments.

IMA Life Bologna is specialised in isolators, loading and unloading systems, and integrated line solutions, including Ready-To-Use (RTU) fill-finish systems, liquid and powder filling equipment, as well as closing and capping technologies for vials and bottles.

To support process development and technological innovation, IMA Life Bologna hosts two in-house laboratories. The IsoTech Lab is dedicated to the design, testing and validation of integrated solutions for aseptic processing lines and freeze-drying applications. The Powder Testing Laboratory focuses on feasibility studies, process development and powder characterisation, aimed at optimising filling performance and ensuring process reliability.
By combining engineering expertise, technological innovation and customer-centric project management, IMA Life develops tailored solutions for pharmaceutical manufacturers worldwide. The division supports customers throughout the entire project lifecycle, from process design and equipment manufacturing to installation, validation and after-sales services.

Aseptic Processing

One of the most critical areas in the global pharmaceutical industry is the aseptic manufacturing process. IMA stands at the forefront with a comprehensive portfolio of innovative technologies, designed to meet the increasingly complex needs of the sector. Our aseptic solutions are fully compliant with GMP Annex 1 and FDA regulatory requirements, offering the highest standards in contamination control and sterility assurance.

Non-Aseptic Processing

IMA Life provides solutions for non-sterile products processed in non-aseptic environments. Fillers for non-aseptic products can dose countless different types of liquids. Machines dedicated to single-dose solutions and macrodosing of powders for syrup preparation complete the range. All equipment handles plastic and glass containers. Closing machines are also available, reaching unprecedented processing speeds.

Freeze-Drying

With over 50 years of experience, IMA designs and manufactures freeze-drying systems tailored to the needs of pharmaceutical and biotech production, from laboratory-scale development to commercial manufacturing.

Labelling

Suitable for the pharmaceutical, personal care and nutraceutical markets, the IMA Life production range includes a vast array of labelling machines for vials, ampoules, syringes, bottles, blow-fill-seal containers, pens, containers with irregular shapes and cartons. Supplied in stand-alone versions or as an integral part of complete packaging lines, they can apply any kind of self-adhesive labels (wrap-around, front, rear or both sides) on standard or irregularly shaped plastic, aluminium or glass containers, as well as vignette and tamper-evident sealing on both aeroplane style and reverse tuck cartons. Thanks to the configuration flexibility of the operative groups, the labelling machines can fit overprinting devices and camera vision systems to read and check data.
