IMA LIFE will participate in the PDA Universe of Pre-Filled Syringes and Injection Devices Conference 2026, taking place on October 6-7, 2026, at the Palm Springs Convention Center in Palm Springs, California.

Bringing together international experts in injectable drug delivery, the conference focuses on developments across formulation science, drug delivery, device development and combination products, with an emphasis on the convergence of science, technology and user experience.

As part of the conference program, Giacomo Guidi, MEng, Aseptic Process Expert and Strategic Marketing at IMA LIFE, will take the stage on October 6 at 2:00 PM to present:

Solving Critical Dynamics in High-Speed Syringe Filling

High-speed pre-filled syringe filling in aseptic processing requires tight control of dynamic parameters that can influence dosing accuracy and overall process robustness.

The presentation will share selected experimental case studies developed in collaboration with pharmaceutical manufacturers, highlighting situations in which specific process challenges required dedicated joint investigations and extensive experimental work.

The first case focuses on filling profile optimization and needle motion dynamics, with particular attention to maintaining a consistent distance between the dosing needle and the liquid level throughout the filling process. This condition proved critical to achieving stable and repeatable dosing at high machine speeds.

A second case study examines the impact of unidirectional airflow on in-process balances. By combining Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) analysis with experimental testing, the investigation identified ways to reduce airflow-related effects on weighing operations, supporting improved dosing accuracy while preserving the required aseptic conditions.

Together, these case studies demonstrate how a combination of process understanding, experimental investigation and advanced engineering tools can help address the complex dynamics involved in high-speed aseptic syringe filling.
