IMA offers flexible storage solutions for both green and roasted coffee, tailored to different capacities, shapes, and space availability. Green coffee can be stored in square, polygonal, or circular silos—indoors or outdoors—equipped with rotary distributors and weighing devices for efficient processing. Roasted coffee silos are designed to protect bean integrity during handling, featuring shock-absorbing systems to prevent damage and blockages, with capacities ranging from hundreds of kilograms to several tons. The range also includes advanced degassing systems, from natural nitrogen injection to accelerated vacuum-based processes.
Green coffee storage solutions need to be flexible and should consider how many coffee origins will be used during production, and what the desired storage time in green silos or in the warehouse should be. This will also always depend on the available storage space. IMA Petroncini supplies highly flexible solutions for both indoor and outdoor storage depending on the facility space available. To adapt best, square-shaped, polygonal or circular solutions are possible, together with rotary distributors and weighing devices specifically designed for green coffee processing.

Once roasted, it is extremely important to preserve the integrity of the beans, because a fall of more than 500 mm risks damaging them. Petroncini provides squared, polygonal or circular silos for small and big capacity.
Silo capacity can vary from a few hundred kg up to many tons and the shape depends on the capacity and available space. Inside every silo and every silo cell, special devices are installed to gently escort the coffee during its fall. There are different types of shock absorbers available, also designed to avoid product obstruction, especially considering the high production capacity up to 5 tons per hour.

IMA Petroncini has developed a range of ground coffee storaging and degassing systems available in various configurations to suit different production needs. Degassing can be performed either under natural conditions with aroma protection ensured by nitrogen injection, or through an accelerated process using vacuum technology combined with nitrogen.
IMA Petroncini’s cutting-edge batch-weighing device can be installed beneath the silos making it possible to accurately dose the green coffee blend or single-origin coffee ready to be sent to the roaster.
Despite the visible space-saving compared to standard valves, the special dosing valves applied to IMA Petroncini weighing system enable high-quantity dosing.
This optimises dosing times and ensures the highest precision of the batch. The capacity of the batch weighing system should be equal or greater than the roaster capacity. The determined weight will be recorded and used for calculating the roasting yield.
The optimisation of the space is a very determining key factor in developing the right storaging project. The special dosing device LINE-S has been engineered and developed by IMA Petroncini to maximise energy-efficiency and the cost-effectiveness in some plant’ layout conditions.
LINE-S is an effective solution for the green bean unloading from the silos and, in a minimum amount of space, can collect several accessories for the product loading, dosing and conveying, combining sensors for the control of the system. Due to the less space footprint compared to other common valves, the use of the LINE-S dosing valves allows to save a lot of vertical space, so that it is possible to earn meter hight for each silo, corresponding to an additional storaging capacity.

Generally, if a company processes many coffee varieties, the blending phase is crucial to guarantee product homogenisation. The beans coming from different silo cells are mixed and then sent to the packaging lines for coffee bean bag preparation or to the grinders to be ground.
IMA Petroncini provides two types of blending machines combined with a batch-weighing system. The traditional solution is the horizontal mixer with rotating drum, equipped with helicoidal paths moving the product back and forth to perfectly mix the beans. A more advanced solution is a batch auto-cleaning blender suitable for companies that sell roasted coffee beans in bags or for specific hygiene requirements. In this case, the suction system combined with special mechanical components inside the mixer means small pieces of coffee can be removed from the blended product.
It provides a comprehensive dashboard to manage daily roasting batches, track coffee quantities in the receiving silos as well as in roasted and ground coffee storage sections, and helps prevent production errors and cross-contamination.
The system also features a list of active and historical batches, allowing users to monitor coffee quantities over specific time periods.
In addition, it serves as a powerful traceability tool, enabling tracking from any product stage — from green coffee lots to packaged products and vice versa — thus supporting the identification and resolution of any potential issues.
