Bag and Tub/Tray Opening Aseptic Processing

Machine overview

Robots do it better, it’s a clean-cut fact

Performing fully robotic opening of sterile primary packages is key to preserving sterility in the isolated processing area. Adopting new robotic technologies across all production operations, from outer/inner bag opening to the downstream handling process, our solutions drastically reduce cross-contamination risks.
The primary package feeding area is usually surrounded by an open RABS (in the case of the outer bag opening module) or a closed RABS (in the case of the inner bag opening module), separating the nearby isolated processing area.
After a pincer device performs pick-up, the overwrapped tub/tray is automatically transferred to the cutting station, where the overbag is opened by a robotic cutting arm.
If the primary package is supplied in a double-bag configuration (inner + outer bag solution), a double-cutting station is installed. The cut is made while keeping the bag flaps in a closed and fixed position.
After cutting, the package is instantly transferred by an internal transfer port to the isolated, processing area where the tub/tray will be definitively opened at the de-lidding station.

Machine highlights

  1. Robotic technology

Fully automated, robotized bag opening and tub/tray de-lidding process.

  2. Handling variety

Handling of single or double bagged package.

  3. Disposable materials

Single-use materials (inner and outer bag, TyvekTM lid and liner) disposed of within the system.

  4. Improved protection

Surrounding area where bag is opened is confined beneath Restricted Barrier Systems.

  5. Full Annex 1 compliance

Bag flaps are opened and the tub/tray de-lidding takes place only once the tub is physically transferred to the isolated area.

  6. Productivity

    Suitable for medium-high production levels.

  7. Robotized process

Production is robotized, from upstream primary package handling to in-line downstream handling.

Tub sterility preservation

To preserve the sterility of the tub, the bag flaps are opened by the suction cups only once the tub is physically transferred to the isolated area. If required, after unwrapping, the tub can be moved to the decontamination unit. The whole tub-opening unit is fully robotized.

TUB/TRAY OPENING

A robotic de-lidding station removes the TyvekTM covering sheet from the top of the tub/tray and disposes of it. The internal liner is then automatically removed from the opened container and disposed of. The tub/tray top perimeter edge can be pre-heated by a dedicated warming station, on request.
